Casanova: The Prince of Macaroni

Casanova has always been known for his travels and his taste for the unconventional, but how he found himself in the culinary history books may still come as a surprise.

Macaroni

In his memoir, he talks of discovering Chioggia’s Macaronic Academies - tongue-in-cheek (or, more accurately, in pasta bowl) poetry clubs in which every member was required to write an ode to macaroni.

Eager to gain entrance, Casanova regaled the group with ten stanzas on the subject and was immediately accepted into the fold.

Afterwards, he stayed for the club’s picnic and ate such an impressive amount of macaroni that he was named the prince of the academy. Now that’s what we call a man after our own hearts.
