Everything You Need to Know About Pizza Ovens
Outdoor pizza ovens are on the rise, with more and more people in the UK deciding to eat Italian al fresco. We’ve put together a brief guide to help you join in with one of the season’s tastiest trends.
Pizza Ovens
If you want to get involved with the pizza oven trend, there are lots of different ways to get started.
1. DIY. If you’ve got a little time and a toolkit to hand, you can build you own pizza oven from scratch. Make sure you’ve got the space set aside in your garden, and then head to a local DIY store or a builder’s merchants to pick up everything you’ll need. There’s a handy guide in Delicious Magazine to help you get started, or you can look up a step-by-step tutorial on YouTube.
2. Buy it. Save yourself time and effort and buy a ready-made pizza oven - although make sure you’ve made provisions to get it into the garden! You can also buy a kit that includes everything you need to assemble it at home.
3. Alternative options. If you don’t fancy the heavy-lifting of a full pizza oven, you can buy a modern, metal version that’s smaller and easier to transport. You can also get pizza-box ovens that sit on top of your barbecue, which is perfect if you don’t have a lot of space and is often the more economical option.
Pizza Recipes
Once you’ve got your oven up-and-running, it’s time to take it for a test drive! One of the best things about having a pizza oven is the variety of different flavours and toppings you can try. For a pizza with a difference, swap out your usual base for a sourdough version.
For inspiration, check out our recipe for a sourdough margherita, and you can add your own toppings to suit your tastes. Nduja is a spicy salami spread that’s one of the season’s most popular food trends and is a great way to give your dish a little extra kick. Soppressata (a dry salami) is another tasty topping that’s particularly popular among Italian chefs.
