The Tuscan genius, in the unusual dress of the chef for Lodovico il Moro, Duke of Milan, being given instructions to prepare something using lettuce, rooster’s crest and bread, invents a sandwich ancestor but failing in giving it a name: “I thought I would take a piece of meat and put it between two slices of bread: but how can I call this dish?”
Lord Sandwich would name that dish only two centuries later, but this is another story...
